Visit my Facebook Page and join the Group I started called South Garland High School Class of 1974! ** If you didn't come to the 35th Get-Together, you missed a good time! Many thanks to Tommy Kennedy and Danny Gannaway for taking the time and effort to put together a fun party! It is a lot of work, and they were very organized! The casual setting lent itself to shorts, t-shirts, pot-luck, cold beer, and lots of laughs. See pictures on Photos - 4 and 5. ** On the Friday before the Get-Together, Tommy Kennedy, once again, organized a fabulous golf-outing for over 30 players at Buffalo Creek Golf Club in Rockwall, Texas. He and Danny Gannaway served a delicious BBQ lunch beforehand that they prepared earlier with the help of Billy Butcher. Gayla Granger Kirk and I had a great time driving the drink-cart around. After the golf game, we all met at Danny's house, which is on the golf course, to talk and give out the awards. Thanks to all the guys who donated their $10.00 winnings to the class web site! See pictures on Photos - 2. ** School started last week, and I have been busy with a Senior Year to-do list such as Yearbook Photos, Senior Ads, Varsity Football, and college applications. While in Garland last weekend, I was able to visit some friends including my former next-door neighbor, Kim Jones Freeman (1973). See pictures on Photo Page - 1. In September, we are headed back to Scottsdale for a long weekend. In October, I am meeting a college friend in Nantucket for five days. Our daughter, Alexandra (23), just passed the CPA exam on her first try - just in time to start at Pricewaterhouse in Audit September 1st. I really appreciate it! ** Congratulations to Mark and Donna Boswell who welcomed their first grandchild on August 28th at 1:10 a.m. Ethan Wade Brown was born to their daughter, Emily, and her husband, Daniel. Ethan was a month premature so he had some breathing issues, which is common with premature infants, but is expected to be fine. See pictures on Photos - 1. ** Our heartfelt condolences go out to Richard and Carolyn Redd Martin on the loss of Richard's mother. ** Phil Ward has retired and recently moved to Park Hill, Oklahoma. ** In June 2008, Dretha Burris retired from Garland ISD where she spent the last seven years as principal of Coyle Middle School in Rowlett. On July 1st, she became the Minister to Children & Families at First United Methodist Church in Rowlett. Dretha will still work for Garland schools mentoring new teachers while she is taking seminary classes. Her daughter will enter the Pre-Law Program at Texas Tech in the fall. ** Many thanks to Patti Murphy Bethune for sharing some fun photos from high school. See Photos - 3. ** My sister, Terry Odem, is the Chairperson for the SGHS Class of 1969 40th High School Reunion to be held September 12, 2009.
